AstroWin and Cosmodynes

Discussion of astrology and cosmodynes (astrodynes)

Beginning Cosmodynes

Here are the natal cosmodynes for a 59-year old man. What can you tell about this man from just looking at these cosmodynes?

Planet Power % Har/Disc
MOON 61.68 13.9 -6.16
SUN 60.26 13.6 1.58
URANUS 41.88 9.4 -5.92
MC 39.06 8.8 0.74
ASC 36.63 8.3 5.65
MERCURY 36.15 8.1 2.88
PLUTO 33.85 7.6 1.94
NEPTUNE 30.32 6.8 1.43
JUPITER 28.75 6.5 7.62
VENUS 26.03 5.9 1.90
SATURN 25.05 5.6 7.17
MARS 23.98 5.4 -6.34

The Moon is the strongest planet in this man’s chart. Would you expect some kind of nurturing ability? Or perhaps a domestic streak? If you knew this man had Sun, Saturn, and MC in Virgo, might you guess he would be good helping around the house? What about this man having a “mothering” instinct, or a tendency to take care of those closest to him, a spouse perhaps? Might this man make a good mother? Or maybe even a woman (Virgo likes to nag, right?)? And what if you saw the below in his chart?

House Power % Har/Disc
10 204.12 31.0 4.76
 9 87.96 13.4 -3.62
11 79.48 12.1 5.25
 8 75.37 11.5 -6.02
 1 51.09 7.8 4.55
 2 49.39 7.5 13.23
12 40.49 6.2 0.80
 3 16.73 2.5 0.31
 4 14.77 2.2 2.26
 7 13.02 2.0 0.95
 6 13.02 2.0 0.95
 5 11.99 1.8 -3.17

The 10th house is far and away the most powerful house. Would you expect this man to put most of his energy into work and career (Saturn in Virgo – workaholic?)? What about the 5th house, the house with the least amount of power? Do you suppose this man puts much energy into recreation or children, especially when you consider that the 10th house energy may be so busy working – and loving it – that there just isn’t time to recreate. And who needs to recreate if work is so much fun? And what conclusions can be drawn from these?

Signs Power Har/Disc
Fire 114.33 -2.97
Earth 203.49 22.24
Air 175.97 0.84
Water 163.65 0.15

Cardinal 245.46 -2.12
Fixed 222.31 3.94
Common 189.66 18.43

Electric (M) 290.29 -2.13
Magnetic (F) 367.14 22.39

House Power Har/Disc
Private 157.71 18.89 (Personal interests and affairs)
Friendship 52.79 0.99 (Companionship with others)
Community 446.93 0.37 (Public activities)

Practical (earth) and intellectual (air).

Takes the initiative (cardinal), yet perhaps sometimes fixed and stubborn (and maybe persistent).

Magnetic (feminine) – this man was once told he would make a very good woman.

Driven to do things for humanity in general, not necessarily for individuals (community – public activities).

Does not pursue companionship with others (friendship houses have the least amount of power).

So after one reviews the natal chart for the tendencies given by planets in signs, planets in houses, and planetary aspects, it can be seen that a review of a person’s cosmodynes can suggest specific details that help fill in the whole picture when trying to understand another.

  1. Allen,

are you in Tucson?? That’s the Sonoran Desert you have up there.

  2. No, north of San Diego.

  3. I came across an astrological program Zet by a russian named Zaitsev who used The Message of the Stars throughout his interpretation segment (plus some quotations from other sources). I would not exclude other borrowings on his part.
If you are interested here is the web site http://zaytsev.com/index.html
Yes, the Lite version is freeware, but obviously, it is not fully functional.
Should you find yourself interested enough to test the program (it has English interface option at first sartup) would you share your authoritative opinion of it.
    Thank you.

  4. In the past I downloaded ZET8 and spent some time looking at it. It’s been a while now and since I do not have any specific remembrances of the program (I think it had very fancy graphics), I will assume that I saw nothing that was particularly memorable about it (this is NOT to say it isn’t a fine program, though. It’s just that after all these years things begin to look the same to me).

I believe Max Heindel’s ‘Message of the Stars’ is in the public domain. I modified one of my early programs and made it into an interpretation program using his interpretations from MOTS (which are quite dated if you read them). The program is called RFInterp and it can be found at:

    http://www.rosicrucianfellowship.org/software/rfinterp.htm

Other free software is available there also – I don’t think any of it does more than what my software does as the Fellowship programs are basically scaled down versions of my original programs.

    Thanks for your comments.

  5. I’ve been using your programs for quite some time now and have always wondered if you taught any classes. I recently moved to Oceanside, CA and would like some info on any classes you may teach.

  6. Hi, Msteele,

I do not teach any classes at the current time and there are no plans at present to begin any classes. If there is a change in this, I will inform everyone through this blog. In the meantime visit my cosmodyne page on my website and read all the material there – as well as the books on the reading list.

    Thank you.

  8. Any particular reason you use the Placidus house system? I prefer the Koch system, which puts my Moon in my 7th house, instead of my 8th. What does that do to my harmony factor? Also, do you have any plans to add aspects like the decile (36 degrees), quintile (72), biquintile (144), or any of the nonogon-related aspects (40, 80, 160) to your program’s calculations? They’re all harmonious aspects that show up all over my chart. And how does your program account for constellations like Stelliums, Grand Trines and T-Squares? It’s also been my experience that relationship astrology needs to see some form of 5th and/or 7th house involvement for a potential romantic relationship to have much of a chance. How do Cosmodyne calculations work these in?

  9. >> Any particular reason you use the Placidus house system?

Yes, because that is what the greats of the past used (Max Heindel, William Lilly, Elbert Benjamine, Alan Leo, etc.) and Placidus houses also fit better in describing me and my 3rd house, I believe.

    >> I prefer the Koch system, which puts my Moon in my 7th house, instead of my 8th. What does that do to my harmony factor?

It probably more affects your power, not your harmony so much. Run my Astro123 software and see for yourself. I don’t know offhand, but you can check it out using various houses.

    >> Also, do you have any plans to add aspects like the decile (36 degrees), quintile (72), biquintile (144), or any of the nonogon-related aspects (40, 80, 160) to your program’s calculations?

No, as Elbert Benjamine (who had spiritual sight), the inventor, saw no need to include these.

    >> They’re all harmonious aspects that show up all over my chart.

But that does not mean they are necessarily meaningful. Noel Tyl recognizes the quintile (creativity) and the quindecile (165 deg), but not any of the others. We should only add more aspects or other bodies/factors IF and only if something in the chart cannot be explained by what is already there.

    >> And how does your program account for constellations like Stelliums, Grand Trines and T-Squares?

All aspects add to the totals, so whether or not a planet is part of these larger configurations or not, the influences are all summed up. You might want to read Elbert Benjamine’s “Astrodyne Manual” for all the details.

    >> It’s also been my experience that relationship astrology needs to see some form of 5th and/or 7th house involvement for a potential romantic relationship to have much of a chance. How do Cosmodyne calculations work these in?

Cosmodynes don’t tell you whether or not a couple SHOULD be together or WILL be together, they simply tell you how the vibrations of each person react as a unit. Oil and water don’t mix. Shake them up all you want and they still won’t be harmonious. The same with people. Two people who share discord between them are like oil and water. Why be with someone whom you share discord with when there are so many others you can be harmonious with?

  10. Greatings,
Not sure that this is true:), but thanks for a post.

    Thank you

  11. Greatings,
Can i get a one small photo from your site?

    Have a nice day

  12. Like which photo?

  13. Your latest Astrowin download seems to be incorrect based on a professionally done natal chart. My correct natal chart shows your Astrowin program to be over 40 degrees in error on the Part of Fortune with possible other errors. Your previous Astrowin versions seem to be correct. I need an accurate Astrowin download. What can I do to get an accurate Astrowin download? Thank-you.

  14. Hi Ruth,

Please check your setting for option #218. I suspect it is set in such a way that gives you a day position for a night chart or a night position for a day chart. Also check the Part of Spirit as it uses the “mirrored” calculations of the Part of Fortune. I bet the two are simply “reversed”. I think you will find AstroWin totally accurate, depending on your option settings.

Here is what it looks like in the OPTIONS (change the ’2′ in the first column to whatever you like):

    2 ;Opt #218 – For P.o.F., 0 = use day formula, 1 = use night formula, 2 = use whichever applies

    Allen

  15. Ruth writes back to me:

Thank-you Allen for your help with Astrowin. I did what you suggested and now your Astrowin program works just fine. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have your Astrowin program to use-it has everything an astrologer could want. Thank you very much.

    Ruth

  16. Does someone know whether there is a comparison method to determine a twin-soul relationship between two people?

  17. In my opinion there is really no such thing as a twin-soul relationship. In reality – and in the invisible worlds – all are one, so this would negate anything which may be representative of separatism, which the term twin soul implies. Second, we have all lived so many past lives and had so many relationships with so many different souls that to say that one and only one of them is “perfect” for us just doesn’t seem likely to me. Down here on the physical plane illusion is commonplace and the ideas of soul mates and twin souls are among these illusions. But perhaps I am wrong with regard to this matter.

  18. Hi Allen, I have finally worked with your Astrowin software and I am pleasantly surprised to find as much data as you provide. You are amazing!

The main interest I had in your software was the Volguine planetary strengths. After sifting through a few of the data pages I find quite a lot of information and on this page, the explanation of the person with the Moon as strongest planet helps to define how to look at the cosmodynes or strongest planet. Of course that led me to look at the strongest houses and both analyses do describe me very well.

I plan to work more with your software and perhaps ask questions. I can add this comment as well. It is good of you to include declination information and a solarmapping. Said earlier – you are simply amazing. For new declination graph information and short blurbs about Sotomayer, M. Jackson and a few others, go to my website and choose Waves of the Future under Special Features. http://weathersage.com Carolyn

  19. Dear Allen,
Is there information somewhere to explain how to use the various options in Matchmaker, such as checking relationship box, best days, parameters, etc? I get confused by certain things. I suppose it would be a time-consuming challenge to have popups for each box, perhaps someone else with the knowledge would be able to offer that addition to your program to make it more user friendly to neophytes. Thanks, Paul

  20. Have you read everything in all the .hlp files – the help files? All the .hlp files are combined into one file called ‘helpfile’. Open that with any text editor and read it or print it. In addition, under the HELP menu, there is the menu item called “Tip of the Day”. It gives a lot of practical information and it is perhaps the best source to start with. I suppose I would not consider MatchMkr a program necessarily designed for neophytes. But we all have to start at some level. Patience and persistence ALWAYS leads to success in time. Keep at it and it will get easier. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, perhaps there is another program that might better serve your needs. MatchMkr is more or less a research program, thus adding the complexity that research entails.

  21. Allen,
are there any Spiritual astrologers with RF background at the AFA, or otherwise, whom you would recommend?
    Thanks.

  22. … assuming you can’t be bothered :) with us individuals.

  23. I am not familiar with the astrologers at the AFA, so I can’t tell you anything about that. If Max Heindel were alive, I think he would say that any astrologer who charges money is not a true spiritual astrologer. Yet I know that in order to get good at anything you have to practice, practice, practice. And how many of us can practice sufficiently enough if we have to work for a living doing something besides astrology? So it is really a catch-22. I am not personally familiar enough with any astrologer in order to be able to recommend one. I know that Noel Tyl knows his stuff (www.noeltyl.com). Who else beside him would I trust? I don’t know. Shall I forward your first post to a group in Madison, WI that may be able to suggest more to you than I have? I don’t have your e-mail. If you share it with me, I can proceed. As far as my abilities, I would say I am rusty from lack of practice – I have to work as a programmer rather than an astrologer in order to earn my daily bread, which doesn’t leave much time for astrological analysis. What are you interested in exactly?

  24. Oh, I thought the AFA banner on your homepage meant you would recommend them to the public.
(‘can’t be bothred’ wasn’t about abilities, but rather your priorities as can be seen from the cosmodynes in this posting:)
I am interested in a consultation beginning with rectification, relocation and all the way down to ‘what do I do with this life now’ :)
I keep returning to Max Heindel’s books and courses, but for some reason, it always happens during Mercury’s retrogradation. Do you think that means I will never get myself together to study astrology systematically and be capable of figuring my own charts out myself?

  25. >> Oh, I thought the AFA banner on your homepage meant you would recommend them to the public.

I recommend them as a book seller and astrological material provider. I don’t think they do readings.

    >> (’can’t be bothred’ wasn’t about abilities, but rather your priorities as can be seen from the cosmodynes in this posting:)

I guess anything is fair game in this blog. Of course writing me direct is also an option – you don’t have to use this blog for communication if you don’t want to.

    >> I am interested in a consultation beginning with rectification, relocation, and all the way down to ‘what do I do with this life now’ :)

    In other words, everything.

    >> I keep returning to Max Heindel’s books and courses, but for some reason, it always happens during Mercury’s retrogradation. Do you think that means I will never get myself together to study astrology systematically and be capable of figuring my own charts out myself?

It takes practice, over and over. So it depends on your motivation and your priorities. I started studying astrology in 1973 – I studied it every day, usually for hours. I did everyone’s chart I could in order to get feedback from what I was interpretating and reading. All this increased my store of knowledge. I started with Max Heindel’s material, but then went on to all kinds of other books – see the reading list in any of my programs. One person or one avenue isn’t sufficient enough to give you all the knowledge you want and need. The more you read and the more charts you work on, the better you will get. I can’t say much about rectification or relocation because I haven’t spent enough time doing those things, but Noel Tyl can perhaps give you insight on where you are in your life and where you could be going, based on current planetary influences (solar arcs mainly, along with the progressed Moon). He has helped a lot of people in this regard – and with vocational guidance as well. I don’t know who is better. He has decades of experience doing this almost every day. You get pretty good by doing something every day for years.
